Individuals Eyelashes

Friday, October 9th, 2009

Many of my clients ask to have individual eyelashes to add a little bit of extra glamour when they book for their makeup appointment. After all, if you are gonna have your makeup done by a professional make-up artist, you might as well go all the way, especially to enhance your party makeup.

The lashes can look very natural too as there are different colors and lengthes to choose from and they are adapted to any eye shape and own eyelashes length.

My favorite look is to add 2 or 3 longer lashes to the exterior of the eyes to open up the eyes.

A few lashes can look great with any makeup look.  Book your makeup appointment now, and give it a go.. have a few individual lashes !

Tips on how to become a make-up artist

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Are you passionate about makeup? Do you want to be a makeup artist and make it your full time career?

First of all, you need to have an artistic flair. Maybe you are good at drawing and have an interest in the Arts? This will help you greatly, as working on faces is like painting on a live canvas.

You must then decide which path you want to take:

Fashion, TV & Film, Theatre, Weddings

This is important as each has different techniques, uses different products etc..

For instance, if you work in the Theatre, the makeup is very heavy and you must be trained in wigs.

For TV & Film, you will be trained to do cuts and bruises, period makeup etc.. You can also specialise in the more advanced special effects.

As you can see, each area of the makeup industry is very different in its approach and you need to decide which one you want to work in.

Once you have decided, check which courses are available and enrol. Courses are all different in length of time and pricing so you must look around and do some research until you find what you want.

Once you have had some training, the best way to get your foot in the door is by assisting an established make-up artist. Again, you must research who are the best artists in Fashion, TV, Film etc..and contact them. Send your CV, call or email them. You will find that this is a very competitive industry and there are a lot of new makeup artist trying to break in the business too but don’t let that put you off, you need to have determination and keep contacting professionals.

In TV and Film, there are hundreds of opportunites to work on short films with film students, which is an excellent way to get experience and make contacts.

If you are trying to make it in Fashion, assisting is again one of the best way to start. You will learn so much just by watching a professional team at work on a photoshoot or a show. You can contact makeup agencies as they will keep your details and will call you when an assistant is needed. Contact them in advance of Fashion Week as this is when they need assistants for the shows.

You must also build a portfolio by teaming with photographers and doing test shoots with models. Your book must show your skills with various styles and makeup. You can contact photographers through photography schools as they will be building their portfolio too. You can also find new graduates and professional photographers who are looking to test on the internet.

I would also highly recommend training in Hair as this will open so many other doors. Often, the makeup artist will be required to do the hairstyling on a shoot, on TV, in films etc.. so this is essential as you will get more work if you do. You can also assist a hairstylist on photoshoots, it is the best way to learn.

I would also recommend that you do a short course in manicures as you will be required to paint nails on most jobs and doing it well is a craft worth knowing.

Most of all, you need practice, practice, practice! Do your friends make up and keep photos of your work. Take a course, contact photographers, agencies, artists and get work experience by assisting on photoshoots, shows etc..

You need passion, enthusiasm and talent.. best of luck to all !

I am totally in love with this new Makeup brand. They have the best colour selection I have seen for eyeshadows, shimmers, glitters, lipsticks and so on. They do the best makeup palettes from small sizes to really large professional ones, which you can mix and match with lip, eyes cheek and concealer colours, . The quality of their products is fantastic. Their makeup have amazing pigments to them. I love their eyeshadows, especially the shimmery ones. Just a dream to work with. Their shop is like a candy shop for anyone who LOVES Makeup.

Best Mascaras

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

I am always asked which are the best mascaras on the market. There are so many, which all come with different brush shapes and give various results: lengthening, thickening etc..

There are many bad mascaras out there.. generally the big brands such as Lancome, Lauder etc have very good quality mascaras.

Two of my favourites are :

L’Oreal Telescopique and Maybelline Volume Express Lift Up mascara.

Telescopique has a unique rubber brush, odd at first but fantastic to use. It separates lashes and lengthen them. I am often asked if my lashes are real when wearing it as it gives incredible lashes! A favourite.

Volume Express Lift Up has a curved brush which pushes the lashes up which gives a wide awake look as the lashes looks like they are perfectly curled. Moreover, it gives length but mainly gives a fullness to your lashes. It is really easy to use too, I am loving it right now!

Gorgeous Facial oil

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

I have just fallen in love with a beautiful facial oil. It can used day or night. It is the organic ‘Pure Radiance Rosehip Oil’ by A’Kin. It is Pro Vitamin A, E with Omega 3, 6 & 9. It smells lovely and feels silky on the skin. I have been wearing as a night treatment and love how my skin feels. Great for dry skins, ageing skins and as an all-round treatment. Perfect for pre-weddings and to get that bridal glow. Makeup will also look much better if the skin is hydrated and healthy.

Make-up tips for brides

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Your wedding day will be one of the most important day of your life and all eyes will be on you so you want to make sure that you will look your absolute best. So organise time to prepare your skin in the 2 to 3 weeks before the wedding.

I would recommend that you:

Try and have a facial weekly,

Exfoliate twice a week,

Moisturise your face morning and night,

Use a lipbalm daily to keep your lips hydrated and soft,

Have your eyebrows waxed or tweezed by a professional,

Drink lots of water.

On the day:

Apply a makeup primer before your foundation to keep your makeup set and give your skin a healthy glow.

If you have combination to oily skin, keep blotting paper with you all day so you can quickly and easily re-touch your face if you get shiny. Blotting paper is sold by most major brands as well as chemists such as Boots and Superdrug.

I would also recommend to use a longlasting lipcolour or to blot your lipstick to help it keep in place for longer.

Good luck ! x

How to make your lipstick stay

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

To make your lipstick stay longer, use a lip liner all over the lips as a base before applying your lipstick.

Choose a natural tone lipliner or a colour to blend with your lipstick. This little trick will help keep your lipstick in place!

The lipliner will also stop your lipstick from bleeding.

Another tip is to apply your lipstick on your lips, blot with tissue and repeat the process once or twice. It will set the lip colour on your lips.

There are also many longlasting lipsticks and lipstains on the market, which can be applied straight onto the lips and can last up to 8 hours. Mac and Revlon do great colours that come in double-ended tubes with either lipgloss or lipbalm on one end to apply on top of the colour to soften the lips.
